Installing carpet bonded foam isn’t just about rolling it out and calling it done—it’s about making sure your flooring performs well and lasts for years. Whether you’re outfitting a gym, martial arts studio, or cheer facility, following the right steps during installation will protect your investment and keep your mats looking and feeling their best. In this guide, we’ll walk you through the proper handling, preparation, and installation techniques for Envirolite Non-Flex Carpet Bonded Foam so you can achieve a smooth, safe, and professional finish.
Things You Should Know
Cutting Carpet Bonded Foam
When installing carpet bonded foam in a custom-fit area, allow the material to acclimate to room temperature prior to cutting. This ensures more accurate sizing and helps maintain the integrity of the foam. For non-flexible mats, additional time may be required to allow the foam to settle naturally. Forcing the foam flat prematurely may result in creasing or damage to the carpet surface. Please note that carpet bonded foam may expand or shrink when exposed to extreme temperatures, so it’s important to work in a temperature-controlled environment.
Temperature & Sunlight
Envirolite mats should be used only after reaching room temperature, as exposure to cold or fluctuating conditions can affect performance. Designed for indoor use, these mats should be kept away from direct sunlight and outdoor elements to prevent fading, warping, or other damage that may void the warranty. To preserve their integrity, avoid storing or using mats in damp environments, as moisture can lead to mold, delamination, and premature wear.
Storage
Due to the way the roll is stored, with the foam on the outside protecting the carpet, use care when transporting and storing the rolls. The mats should be stored away from any potential puncture risk and should be handled cautiously when transporting through doorways and around other obstacles. Mats should be stored upright on a smooth, flat surface.
Installation
Step One
Carefully remove packaging from each roll to avoid damaging the mat—avoid using sharp tools. Once unwrapped, place mats on their side, unfasten the straps, and save them for future use. Do not discard.
Step Two
Unroll it with the carpet side facing down until you reach the end of the roll.
Step Three
To avoid creasing, have 3–4 people carefully flip the roll with the foam side facing down. Allow the rolls to rest flat for at least 8 hours before use to avoid damaging the carpet.
Step Four
After all rolls are laid out, push them together to form a single mat. Do not kick the edges to adjust. Once the rolls are lined up side by side, without any gaps, center the hook fastener over each seam and secure it firmly to the carpet.
